The majority of the expense in granite projects is in the fabrication/edging. Granite fabrication/edging is a time consuming, laborious process. Another element that increases the price of granite is the waste, an average slab is approximately 65" x 115" or 55 square feet. At Affordable Extras Natural Stone, Inc. we address both of these issues. Our slab sizes are smaller (51" x 100" & 40" x 100") which drastically reduces the waste. Our slabs are also pre-fabricated along the long edge saving hours of fabrication labor.
For example, if you had an "L" shaped countertop that was 8' on one side and 6' along the other, and an island that was 3' x 7', your kitchen would be
approximately 58 square feet. Using Affordable Extras slabs you would have to purchase 1- 51" x 100" and 1- 40" x 100" slab, or 64 square feet of granite. In addition, your project would only require approximately 3-5 linear feet of fabrication/edging. Compare that to a traditional granite slab job where you would need about 110 square feet of granite to complete your project and 34 -38 linear feet of fabrication/edging would be required.
